There is no certain number of photographs that you can keep in your memory card. The number of images that can be stored depends on the type of images. It also further depends on the exact file type of the images and also on the compression rate of each photograph.
The bottom line of your digital camera memory is that you must have more memory in your possession than you really need. Do not worry on the side of prices as they are mostly affordable. The memory card should be always adaptable to the version of your digital camera.
